We know this story is from a while ago, but we are still very proud of Paul's achievement!

Paul Pemberton Voted Britain's Most Concientious Tradesman!

Local man, Paul Pemberton from Crowthorne, Berkshire, has been named as Britain's Most Conscientious Tradesman in the annual House Beautiful magazine and British Gas, Unsung Community Heroes Awards 2005.

housebeautifulWhen celebrities are honoured simply for the way they look or dress it's heartening to find out about the ordinary people in all walks of life who really make a difference to their communities. House Beautiful magazine along with British Gas set out to find the outstanding heroes who selflessly go out of their way to make a difference to other people's lives.

TV celebrity Lorraine Kelly attended the VIP lunch at London's Lanesborough Hotel on Monday 6th February and presented 8 delighted award winners, including Paul Pemberton, with cheques for £1,000 each.

The Judges from House Beautiful and British Gas were inspired by the everyday people who entered. They weren't looking for the ultra courageous, simply people who in their own modest way ensure that our neighbourhoods remain pleasant, positive places to live.

Jill Morgan, Associate Editor of House Beautiful says 'We all know someone who has had a negative experience with a builder or tradesman, but, many still do a wonderful job and take pride in their work. Paul is certainly amongst those to be treasured like gold dust! He makes suggestions to help save money, you can rely on him to turn up when he says he will, he works efficiently and always clear up after a job.'

Anne Morton, who nominated Paul told us, 'I hired Paul last year to carry out a complete renovation of my kitchen. The original layout of the flat had a very small kitchen and large dining area and I wanted to knock the room into one to create a large kitchen/breakfast room area.'

'From the outset Paul's advice and knowledge were invaluable. Based on our surveyor's drawings we had originally feared we would have to re-pipe the cooker, re-plumb the sink and re-site the boiler. However, Paul met with the surveyor and thanks to his suggestions and ideas we were able to carry out a like for like replacement on all the key components of the kitchen drastically cutting down the extra cost and upheaval required.'

Lilas Allen of British Gas says 'We were thrilled to sponsor these very worthwhile community awards for the second year running. It's reassuring and inspiring to know that there are so many people out there who are making a difference to so many people's lives – proof that community spirit is still well and truly alive.'

Paul Pemberton was surprised and delighted with his award and commented 'I consider I'm just doing my job. I thoroughly enjoy working closely with my clients through each phase of the project to guarantee a successful outcome. I was delighted to have been nominated and thrilled to have won.'
